Bloomberg News is seeking editors for its First Word Oil service as it expands coverage of physical oil markets in the Americas and Europe. This position will be based out of our New York office.

Candidates will have experience analyzing oil markets globally, with in-depth knowledge of Europe and/or the Americas. They must have deep and broad contacts in the trader community and be able to write for that audience. The individual will be responsible for providing fast and concise breaking news on oil flows, supply, demand, arbitrages and their impact on prices.

Knowledge of Bloomberg’s energy functions and data is a plus.

All candidates must have strong writing skills and will be expected to develop new contacts.

Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
-Minimum of three years of oil markets experience
-Strong work ethic, team player, ability to work calmly in high-pressure environment

Bloomberg seeks aviation/defense reporter in London

Bloomberg News seeks a reporter for the London office to join the European aviation team, to cover UK aerospace and defense companies including Rolls Royce and BAE Systems as well as UK aviation-transport topics spanning airports to passenger experience.

The reporter would back up the team in coverage of European airlines and aircraft manufacturing as well as major industry events such as air shows. Apart from covering the daily news on companies, the reporter is expected to break news, build contacts and expand Bloomberg’s relationship in the industry through regular interaction with executives.

The reporter must cover the earnings and press conferences of companies on the beat, and write regular enterprise stories on industry trends and market developments. The reporter will be part of the European aviation team.

Qualifications:
-Journalism experience is essential
-Experience of working in a real-time news environment in desirable
-Experience of covering aviation and defense companies is desirable

Bloomberg seeks social media strategist in New York

Bloomberg is seeking someone who is able to develop and execute a social media strategy surrounding Bloomberg News’ key content and events, and also work with our news leadership and promotional team to build our talent’s social media profiles and activity.

This is a senior position, based in New York, but the person would be asked to cultivate new communities of followers for reporters on key beats around the world, measure impact and reach and monitor relevant conversations where our team should be engaged. That means creating training for groups of reporters and editors, as well as running 1 on 1 sessions, cajoling staff to pick up the pace, and tracking progress.

Prior experience running social media campaigns and managing staff is a must. Experience with media companies is preferred as well.

Brian Rooney

Bloomberg’s Rooney leaves the company

Brian Rooney, a longtime Bloomberg employee who was one of the early editorial hires, has left the company earlier this week, multiple sources confirmed to Talking Biz News.

A former colleague called him one of the  “most respected Bloomberg news guys and later a guru on the analytics side.”

Rooney has been the core product manager for news for the past eight years, overseeing, among other things, the rollout of Twitter feed availability on the Bloomberg terminal.

He also oversaw the rollout of a variety of $2,000 newsletters available from Bloomberg.

Rooney had been with Bloomberg since 1991 and served within the newsroom as the top news editor, national news editor, Princeton bureau chief and New York bureau chief before joining product development in 2005.

A graduate of the University of Colorado, Rooney is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts and a CFA charter holder.

Bloomberg News seeks an experienced reporter for its Brasilia office to cover Brazil’s economy, policy-making and politics.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to break news using well-sourced government officials, have written in-depth features on Brazil’s economy, and be a self-starter who can perform to the highest standards without close supervision. Candidates should be able to write quickly and concisely under tight deadline pressure and be enthusiastic about working in a team environment.

A minimum of five years of business journalism experience is preferred. The person in this role must be fluent in both English and Portuguese. All candidates should attach clips showing economy or politics-related subject matter if possible.
