Kristi Dosh, a sports business reporter at ESPN, is leaving the network.

Dosh writes, “However, it’s a gamble I’m glad I took, despite the fact that I’m writing this today to tell you my contract has expired at ESPN, and I won’t be signing a new one. Earlier this year, ESPN made the decision to shut down a section of ESPN.com called Playbook, which included the sports business page. Since then, the way my job worked behind the scenes drastically changed. I don’t think it was working for me or for ESPN, which is why I’m moving on….

“So what’s next for me? About six months into working at ESPN, I was doing a guest lecture at Western Kentucky University and a student asked me what my career goal was if i was already at ESPN. Clearly, he considered that the top of the world. And certainly it seems that way some days. I was incredibly blessed to have worked at ESPN, and no doubt I became a better reporter under the guidance of the editors there.

“That being said, I think it would be sad to say that two years ago at the ripe-old age of 29 I reached my ultimate career goal. My ultimate goal is to continue to be employed doing something I love at a place where I feel valued. I’m open to the idea that meeting those goals could mean working at any number of organizations in any number of capacities. My dream job isn’t a job title or a certain company by my name. I encourage you all to think that way as well – don’t miss out on great opportunities because you’ve got tunnel vision.”
