CNBC kills "On the Money"

August 25, 2009

Richard Johnson of The New York Post reports that CNBC has killed “On the Money,” a personal finance show that it put on hiatus earlier this year.

Johnson writes, “CNBC’s low-rated 10 p.m. show — hosted by Carmen Wong Ulrich, the personal-finance expert and author of ‘Generation Debt’ — is said to be a victim of the success of documentaries like ‘Pleasure: Business of Porn’ and ‘The Age of Wal-Mart.’

“A spokesman for CNBC told Page Six, ‘Due to the tremendous success of our documentary program, we’ve made the tough decision to move resources to our long-form [docu-making] unit.'”

“On the Money” premiered in August 2008 and was moved to 9 p.m. when “Wall Street Crisis” premiered as a series of special reports based on the financial crisis. It moved to the 10 p.m. slot in December, taking over the slot from “The Big Idea.”
