Blog created to track ACBJ layoffs

June 18, 2009

A blog has started to track the layoffs at American City Business Journals papers.

On May 1, some ACBJ employees were told that five newspapers within the chain would have layoffs: Charlotte, Boston, Seattle, Sacramento, Hawaii and San Francisco (which let go most, if not all, of the employees that had been transferred from the former East Bay Business Times). The decision to lay people off was made shortly after the chain announced a pay cut.

This past week, the chain’s Mass High Tech paper also had layoffs.

The blog says, “This blog has not been approved, sanctioned, created or developed by ACBJ. The identity of the creator(s) will remain anonymous. The blog was created so that the scores of journalists working for ACBJ can stay informed about the layoffs the chain appears to be undertaking.

“Following in the steps of DMNCuts, the Dallas Morning News unauthorized layoff blog, ACBJ journalists and others with information about the layoff situation are encouraged to post. Names of colleagues who are laid off will only be published with permission. Anonymous comments are welcome. Please keep comments on topic and civil.”

The blog can be read here.
